Congressman LoBiondo's Memorial Day Statement
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-2) released the following statement for Memorial Day Weekend.
"This Memorial Day is a special one for our World War II veterans. This year, veterans from the last great war will receive their long overdue recognition with the dedication of the new World War II Memorial here in our nation's capital. This memorial is a tangible tribute that formally thanks the Greatest Generation for winning the freedom we enjoy today. The new World War II Memorial will honor the "spirit, sacrifice and commitment" of our nation and its troops, who were committed to fighting for peace and freedom against global tyranny and oppression.
"Memorial Day is also perhaps one of the most important holidays in America. It celebrates the sacrifices made by our courageous men and women who have fallen in defense of our nation's liberty. Without these brave Americans, no other holidays would be possible. This day marks the high price of freedom, and we must not forget to remember the reason behind the holiday. From the Revolutionary War to the present conflict in Iraq, Americans have given their lives to protect the values and freedoms that we cherish today. In honor of these heroes, I encourage everyone to pause during the National Moment of Remembrance as an act of national unity at 3pm on Memorial Day, May 31."
