June 18, 2004, Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05) extended his deep condolences to the family of Paul Johnson, the American engineer whom Al Qaeda militants brutally murdered this afternoon. Al Qaeda had given the Saudi government a Friday deadline to free jailed militants or they would kill Johnson.

"The types of tactics these terrorist have used against this poor victim and many before him, just goes to show what types of brutal, cold blood killers we are waging the War on Terror against. This barbaric action must be condemned and the killers brought forward so that justice can be brought to the victim and his family.
"In case the world needed a reminder of why America is waging this war against terrorism in the Middle East, we were again reminded with the murder of Paul Johnson, who was so mercilessly beheaded by these terrorists.
"However, we must not let terrorist shatter our will, but instead continue our efforts to go after these terrorists and those who support terrorist activity. America must keep our stead fast resolve in rooting out these senseless killers, so that we may redouble our efforts to spread democracy and freedom as alternatives to this type of terror and violence."
