Education

A strong educational system is the foundation of a prosperous future for Nebraska and its young people. We must make sure Nebraskans have access to top quality education at the primary and secondary levels.

While I support fostering the highest quality education for our children, I did not support "No Child Left Behind" as a Governor and I do not support it now. One size does not fit all when it comes to education; the role of the federal government should be to assist and partner with the state and local school districts, not control and administer them.

We should invest in our students through Pell Grants and expanded access to student loans. Additionally, the federal government should honor its commitment to fully fund special education programs at the 40% level promised in the 1970s. These initiatives along with others will help ensure a vibrant future for Nebraska from the Sand Hills to the Capital City, from the panhandle to the banks of the Missouri River.
