On Monday, a federal judge in Virginia ruled that the mandate to purchase health insurance contained in Obamacare is unconstitutional. While he did not seek an immediate injunction against the law, this provision will not come into effect until 2014. It should come as no surprise that a court struck down this provision since Republicans warned Democrats that the law went too far. This certainly isn't the end of court battles, and it only reinforces the need to repeal the law as soon as possible. Many other provisions of Obamacare continue to damage our healthcare system, raising costs and disrupting access to care. I'm working closely with Chairman Upton and Republican leadership on our strategy for wholesale repeal of the law. Congress, like the courts, has a responsibility to uphold the Constitution.
