Issue Position: Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)

Issue Position

Issues: Oil and Gas

I believe we must encourage oil exploration in the U.S. and invest in an overall national energy policy in order to eliminate our dependence on oil from foreign countries. Experts believe that a portion of what is now the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) may potentially be the richest onshore source of oil remaining in the United States.

Our heavy reliance on foreign oil threatens our economic and national security and makes our country vulnerable to oil producing countries often run by tyrants who provide shelter and support to terrorists. Conversely, by producing more of our own oil that is located right here and owned by the American people, we bring more jobs to our nation. In doing so we keep those dollars spent by Americans on their fuel, in the hands of Americans for producing that fuel.

I have long supported additional exploration in ANWR and I assure you that as this important issue continues to be debated in Congress, I will continue to keep best interests of all Americans in mind.
