Rep. Pitts Acts to Prevent Tax Hike

Late last night, the House of Representatives passed a two-year extension of all current tax rates and a 13-month extension of the emergency unemployment compensation program. Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) joined with 138 Republicans and 139 Democrats to send the bill to the President.

Rep. Pitts' statement follows:

"Last night, Congress worked together to prevent what would have been the largest tax increase in our nation's history. This was a compromise agreement, I don't agree with everything that was in it, but I thought that it was critical to stop the economic damage that would have been caused by the hike. I still believe we need to offset the new spending in this bill with reductions in other areas. This just means that Republicans will have to work even harder next year to identify wasteful spending and programs that we don't need."
