Rep. McCarthy Statement on the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010

Press Release

Congresswoman McCarthy issued the following statement about the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010 and the vote that took place last week in the House:

"I was unable to be in Washington last week to vote on the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010. My sister has been gravely ill and in the hospital. I have been with her, her husband and children since Monday the 13thand will be with them until there are clear signs that she will get better. Our parents taught us that family comes first and family means everything to me. Mine has gathered around me in times of crisis with their strength and care. There is no question that I belong here at this time of my sister's serious condition.

I have been in close contact with House Leadership regarding my attendance. I am very grateful to Leader Hoyer for his discussions with me regarding legislation and his kindness about my sister's illness.

I want to thank many of you for your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to keep my sister in mind -- we are not out of the woods yet. "
