Congressman Steve Pearce to Urge Sensible Changes to Health Care Industry

Tomorrow, the United States House of Representatives is expected to vote on H.R. 2, a bill to repeal President Obama's health care "reforms" enacted last year under by the Pelosi-Reid liberal Congress.

The new Washington-controlled health care regime is a dramatic step away from personal choice in health care and instead rations services, limits choice, and reduces quality, innovation and competition. Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement today regarding the upcoming vote on healthcare:

"President Obama's plan creates hundreds of new bureaucracies, organizations, regulations, and steps that stand between a patient and their doctor. Where greater simplicity and ease are needed, President Obama's new health care regime creates more complication. Where broader freedom is needed, it creates more government control," said Pearce.

Pearce continued, "The new health care requirements have placed tremendous strain on New Mexican businesses. Many small-business owners will be forced to make cuts and lay off employees to comply. In this already difficult economic climate, we cannot afford another government-run program that threatens the livelihoods of hardworking Americans.

We can do better with a more systematic approach to tackling the ailments in the health care industry. We must maintain the extension of coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions. We must create more flexibility in the health care industry by allowing individuals and families to take their policy with them if they leave their job. We must allow consumers to shop for health insurance across state lines. We must incentivize the purchase of Medical IRA's which are usable at any age without tax consequences to pay for premiums, deductibles, office visits, treatment and prescriptions."
