Dr. Benishek on the Shooting of Congresswoman Giffords

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today made the following statement in regard to the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

"I am greatly saddened to have heard the devastating news concerning the shooting in Arizona. My thoughts and prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her family, friends, staff and all the victims of this truly heinous and cowardly act.

Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to get to know Rep. Giffords in the first days of the 112th Congress, but I pray for a speedy recovery.

This type of senseless act has no place in a civilized society. In a nation where we honor freedom of speech and open debate, this tragedy touches all of us.

It is my hope that those individuals who are responsible will be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
