Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today released a statement on the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and others in Arizona:
"There is much we are waiting to learn about what happened today. But we already know that today a young, dynamic public servant went to work to meet with her constituents in the best tradition of our democracy, citizens came to ask her questions, and something unforgivably wrong happened to interrupt this most American way of life. It's already cost the lives of a child and a federal judge. I'm reminded that Rep. Giffords was just out doing her job, and she's fighting for her life today because of it. That should never happen in our country and there must be consequences. Teresa and I are praying for Congresswoman Giffords, her family, and all the victims of today's shooting and their families."
