Florida members of Congress vow to not let the Arizona shooting deter them
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and her husband, Dexter, took to the streets of Little Havana today for the annual Three Kings Parade -- conscious of Saturday's shooting but resolute not to let it stop them.
"It's tragic and entirely incomprehensible, but it's important for members of Congress to continue with their routine and talk to their constituents," Ros-Lehtinen said. She and Dexter walked the entire route on Calle Ocho -- "a family tradition for us and we were not going to miss it."
She said they did notice a number of Miami police officers on bicycles, but said there were no incidents. And she said she plans to attend the mock swearing-in Monday for South Florida members of Congress at the U.S. Courthouse on North Miami Avenue. Rep. David Rivera also says he'll be there. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she plans to attend a similar event in Broward on Monday.
"There are problems in schools, in workplaces, lamentable tragedies happen," Ros-Lehtinen said. "We've got to keep going."
