Today Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif. applauded the Senate passage of the standalone Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal bill. The bill is now on its way to President Obama, who is expected to sign it into law.

"With this historic vote, we will finally end legally sanction discrimination in the United States military," said Rep. Chu. "The misguided Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy has hurt countless men and women who scarified so much to serve this great country. With the passage of this bill, that discrimination will finally come to an end."

"In the year 2010, it is time for us to put this dark stain on our history behind us. It is finally time for us to take this step down the long road toward GLBT equality and move us one step closer to realizing the promise of the Declaration of Independence - that all men are created equal. Today we should take a moment to celebrate this historic achievement!"

Representative Judy Chu is a longtime supporter of equal rights for every American and was recently awarded a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign for her work in the 111th Congress.
