U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss(R-Ga.), Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, today issued thefollowing statement regarding the free trade agreement (FTA) between the UnitedStates and South Korea:
"Today's announcement is a positive development and it ismy hope it signals President Obama's intention to submit the UnitedStates-South Korea Free Trade Agreement to Congress early next year.
"While the lack of progress on beef is of concern, thefree trade agreement is a critical part in growing U.S. agricultureexports. In the weeks ahead, Korea needs to provide assurances to theUnited States how it intends to fully implement the 2008 Protocol consistentwith their international obligations.
"I look forward to the upcoming debate in the Senate nextyear as well as action of the other pending free trade agreements with Colombiaand Panama."
