* Colm O'Comartun, a longtime aide to incoming Democratic Governors Association chairman and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, will succeed Nathan Daschle as the next executive director of the DGA.

* National Republican Congressional Committee communications director Ken Spain is leaving the committee to join the Private Equity Growth Capital Council as vice president of public affairs and communications.

* Maine Gov.-elect Paul LePage (R) announced that he will back Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) against a potential GOP primary challenger, stirring consternation among some tea party groups.

* Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Chris Healy will not run for Republican National Committee chairman and has instead endorsed former RNC political director Gentry Collins, saying that Collins "has the right temperament and knowledge of what needs to be done."

* Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) delivered a speech at the Hudson Institute late last week laying out a sweeping GOP agenda for the next year. In a roundtable after the event, author Bill Schambra declared that "Lamar was tea party before tea party was cool."
