Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the unemployment rate for November increased to 9.8 percent nationwide.
"Today's jobs figures contain more dismal news for American workers and small businesses," Scalise said. "The effect of these figures is compounded by the fact that just last night, Speaker Pelosi and her lame duck majority voted to raise taxes on American families, small businesses, and job creators. The national unemployment rate has been 9.4 percent or higher for 19 consecutive months, and it is outrageous that the only answer the administration and the liberals running Congress have is to raise taxes on America's job creators. It is past time that Congress focus on creating jobs, fixing the economy, and eliminating wasteful spending by returning to sound, proven principles of lower taxes and less spending to create jobs and get our economy back on track."
