Bono Mack: Raising Taxes Could Hurt Economic Growth

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) released the following statement after voting in opposition to the Democrat plan to ensure that taxes rise next year for many families and small businesses:

"The Democratic majority has decided to play politics instead of working to prevent a tax hike on all Americans. This is exactly the wrong approach during these difficult and uncertain economic times, and shows an arrogant disregard for the message the American people sent Washington in November," stated Bono Mack. "Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone, especially small businesses and working families. Raising any taxes right now could negatively impact the nation's economic growth."

"Those who are most likely to be hit by the largest tax increase in American history employ one out of every four workers in this nation. The American people did not send us here to play games, but to create solutions that strengthen our economy and help create jobs. I oppose this cynical political gamesmanship and will work with my colleagues in Congress to do everything possible to prevent a massive tax increase on Jan. 1, 2011."
