Our country owes a great deal to our fighting men and women here at home and those deployed across the world in defense of America. Keeping Fort Drum strong will help to honor their work and ensure that they have everything they need to complete the mission. Fort Drum is important not only to our national security interests, but to our local economy as well. The Post serves as a powerful driver for economic development, and is doing a tremendous job at training the men and women who are preparing to defend our freedoms overseas.
As a Member of the Armed Services Committee, I am proud to have helped secure over $230 million in funding for Fort Drum, and I look forward finishing this important defense legislation later this year. I am impressed by the work that those in the Fort Drum community have done to support America's efforts, and will continue doing everything possible to help in any way that I can. I have supported legislation that raises soldier pay and guarantees that America makes good on its promise to take care of our veterans long after they have finished their service to our nation. The 10th Mountain Division is the most deployed in the country, and as their Representative I stand with residents of the North Country in my commitment to see that Fort Drum has everything it needs to complete the mission and be a part of our community for years to come.
