Granholm Statement on U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement

Statement

Date: Dec. 4, 2010
Location: Lansing, MI
Issues: Trade

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on an announcement by the president that a landmark free trade agreement has been reached between the United States and South Korea.

"The free trade agreement reached between the United States and South Korea is a significant accomplishment that will benefit American businesses and workers. In Michigan, automobile manufacturers will have access to new markets previously unavailable, and stronger worker rights standards will help keep jobs here in the United States. Once approved by Congress, this free trade agreement will make the United States more competitive for the 21st century.

"I commend President Obama for his work to complete these negotiations as well as the efforts of Michigan Congressmen Sandy Levin and Dave Camp, chair and ranking member of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee respectively, along with Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally and UAW President Bob King in helping to shape an agreement that is good for both American businesses and workers."
