Blackburn Supports Real Tax Relief For All Americans Votes Against Democrat Sponsored Half Measure

Statement

Date: Dec. 2, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) voted against a Democrat sponsored measure that would permit crippling tax increases on the engine of America's economic growth, small businesses. The bill would have extended tax cuts for families making less than $250,000 per year. However, small business owners, whose business income is filed together with their personal income would be left out in the cold.

"The old notion that Washington has the first right of refusal on your paycheck was alive and well on the House floor today. Refusing to accept that Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem; my colleagues voted to raise taxes on the same small businesses we depend on to create jobs. I believe that this is the wrong time to raise taxes on any Tennessean, to pull money out of any business, or allow a tax burden to hamper the creation of a single Tennessee job. I support making all current tax rates permanent and making Washington live within those means....or less
