U.S. Sen. David Vitter today made the following comments in response to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's announcement that in the coming weeks he will bring up for a vote the DREAM Act, legislation that allows in-state college tuition for illegal immigrant students.
"I am disappointed to learn that Senator Reid is once again attempting to force a vote on the sweeping amnesty proposal known as the DREAM Act," said Vitter. "Disguised as an educational initiative, the DREAM Act will provide a powerful incentive for more illegal immigration by allowing states to grant in-state tuition to illegal alien students.
"In these difficult economic times, this announcement is an insult to legal tax-paying citizens that President Obama and his allies in the Senate want to use their hard-earned money to pay for in-state tuition for illegal aliens."
As chairman of the Senate Border Security Caucus, Vitter has worked to block this bill in the past and has pledged to continue fighting against this and other amnesty legislation.
