Governor Mark Sanford issued the following Veterans Day message to South Carolinians:
"With tens of thousands of South Carolinians and well over a million men and women serving in our nation's armed services - many of them serving in combat zones - it's our duty and privilege to remember the sacrifices they've made and continue to make on our behalf," Gov. Sanford said. "We live in a country begun by courageous patriots who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor, a country of laws and not men, and a country founded on every citizen's pursuit of happiness without undue government influence. As we all know, however, these blessings are not free. They're ours only because generations of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen have responded to duty's call and risked their lives for our safety. For that reason we ought all to take a few minutes today and remember our men and women in uniform - those who've served in the past and those who serve now; those who've returned safely from tours of duty and those who've come back wounded; and above all those who've made the ultimate sacrifice for our liberties and way of life."
