Statement

Date: Nov. 17, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John Sullivan issued the following statement after House Republicans selected their new leadership team for the 112th Congress. The House Republican Conference unanimously selected Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) as the designee for Speaker of the House. Rounding out the top of the leadership team are Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) who will serve as the Majority Leader and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who will serve as the Majority Whip.

"House Republicans pledged to deliver a new direction for our country and to regain the trust of the American people - I firmly believe that Reps. Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy are the right team for the job, and I offer my sincere congratulations to each of them on the overwhelming vote of confidence they received to lead our party and our nation forward."

"The November election was a not only a referendum on President Obama , it was a referendum on the tax, borrow and spend agenda in Congress that is simply out of touch with the leadership the American people are crying out for. I am proud that we elected a leadership team who not only understands the problems we face, but they are ready to move forward with a bold new governing agenda that reflects the will of the American people from day one."
