Kerry: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard to Lead Nation in Home Energy Efficiency Program

U.S. Senator John Kerry today announced that Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard has been chosen as one of ten areas of the country to lead a program to score the energy efficiency of family homes.

Earlier today, Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu announce the launch of the Home Energy Score pilot program. The program will allow residents in Massachusetts to receive a straightforward, 1 to 10 score on the energy efficiency of their home. Along with the score, homeowners will receive a list of recommendations for home energy upgrades along with estimated savings on their utility bill.

"This program will allow Massachusetts families to see the real benefits that simple upgrades can have on their homes and pocket books. I'm honored that our state is once again taking the lead when it comes to energy efficiency," said Sen. Kerry.

Cape Light Compact, the pilot program for Massachusetts, is made up of the 21 towns on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard and serves 200,000 energy customers. The organization works with energy improvement contractors to better serve homeowners and encourage consumers to get home energy upgrades. Cape Light Compact offers home energy assessments as part of the Mass Save program. Cape Light Compact plans to score between 100 and 200 homes by June 2011.
