"We need quality public education for every child -- No more Corridors of Shame!"
The key to our success as a state is public education. Education is what enables a person to make informed decisions, to open doors of opportunity, and to step into a better way of life. It is a step out of poverty. When high-tech, high wage industries consider locating to a state, they look at the quality of its public schools because in today's economy, a competent workforce must be well educated. The most glaring problem with public education in South Carolina is the gap between tax-rich and tax-poor school districts. Support for public education is an investment in the lives of our people and in the future of our state. As your legislator, I would support and advocate for:
- Equalized funding for school districts
- Competive pay for our teachers -- We get what we pay for.
- Smaller classrooms
- More pre-K opportunities
- A minimum wage that is a livable wage. -- Every person who works fulltime should be able to support their family.
- Amend the state constitution to replace the dismal standard of "minimally adequate" with the expectation of a "high quality education" for our public school children.
