Many politicians talk about improved access to health care. But Harold Mitchell takes action. His record on health care is exceptional and he strongly believes in preventative health care.

Child receiving dental care.Harold also recognizes that dental health is a crucial feature of overall health. According to the Health Department, the number one reason kids miss school is because of dental problems. Unfortunately, many children in low-income communities have never visited a dentist, impacting not only their teeth but their overall health and development. Again, Harold has taken action. He facilitated the establishment of a Small Smiles dental practice that has provided dental care to over 11,000 kids in Spartanburg.

As a State Representative, Harold:

Secured $1 million for community health centers across the state.

Secured $300,000 for free breast and colon cancer screening in Spartanburg. Thousands were screened and hundreds of lives were saved because of early detection.

Secured $250,000 for a new 340B pharmacy that will offer over 45% off prescription medicine.

Secured $50,000 for children's mental/behavioral health. Under his leadership over 1,500 kids were treated for behavioral/mental health issues.

Sponsored the electronic prescription drug bill.

Co-Sponsored the discount pharmacy drug card bill.

Disease prevention is one of the best investments in health. Working with local hospitals and universities, Harold has made it possible for health clinics in his area to provide free health screening and education to more than 10,000 residents.

Fighting for better access to affordable health care will always be a top priority for Harold.
