Today, Congressman Bill Foster released the following statement after the release of the September Illinois Monthly Labor Force Report. Based on the county unemployment rate data contained in the report, the unemployment rate for the 14th District has dropped to 8.7 percent, down from 9.4 percent in August.
"While a full and complete economic recovery will take time, I am encouraged to see that in September, unemployment numbers continue their decline and have fallen below 9 percent for the first time since January of 2009 -- a period in which unemployment was skyrocketing due to the financial collapse and our economy was losing nearly 800,000 jobs every single month.
Although unemployment in our area is still too high, it is clear that economic conditions are beginning to improve. Job creation must remain our top priority, and I am committed to continuing to spur our economic recovery so that every single person who wants to work can find a job."
