Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, Arizona's only Member on the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement following the discovery of two explosive devices found in route to the United States:

"Last night, authorities discovered two explosive devices headed for the U.S. as part of an attempted terrorist attack against our country. It is becoming more and more clear that there was a real and serious threat to the lives of our citizens - I am relieved and thankful that no one was harmed.

"This is yet another reminder that we must maintain the highest level of vigilance as long as there continue to be terrorist organizations that wish to do harm to Americans and American interests.

"I have been in contact with the Department of Homeland Security and will continue to closely monitor this situation. Our national security and public safety must always come first, and I am determined to ensure that nothing compromises our efforts."
