I am a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights. The U.S. Constitution explicitly states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
It is my firm belief that citizens should not be prohibited from protecting themselves, their family, or their property from harm. We must develop new solutions to old social problems rather than blame violent crime on guns. We should punish criminals and leave innocent people alone. As such, I look forward to having the opportunity to support legislation that reflects the values of law-abiding gun owners.
I am pleased that The National Parks Firearm Bill (H.R. 1684), which I cosponsored and spoke in favor of on the House floor because of its importance to Alabama, has been enacted into law. Other recent pieces of legislation protecting our Second Amendment rights that I have cosponsored are: The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Bill (H.R. 197) and the Veterans Firearm Heritage Bill (H.R. 442).
