Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) today issued the following statement commending Capital One's plan to create more than 1,000 new jobs in Virginia, of which about 700 positions will be located in Henrico:
"Capital One's commitment to creating jobs in Henrico is what we need more of to get this economy going again. While Virginia has fared better than other parts of the country, the unemployment rate is unacceptably high and more than 284,000 people in the Commonwealth remain out of work. These new jobs will provide much needed opportunities for our families and the many people we know who are looking to get back to work.
"The only way out of the current economic downturn is through private sector growth and innovation. Local business owners continue to tell me that we must stop Washington's assault on free enterprise and put an end to the economic uncertainty preventing them from growing and hiring. My top priority has been and will continue to be creating jobs by helping our business people and investors get back in the game. I remain committed to creating a positive business environment here in Virginia, bringing confidence to our nation's job creators, and signaling to investors worldwide that our doors are open for doing business."
