LOCAL ISSUES - WATCHING OUT FOR US

Over the years, Dana oversaw the now nearly completed Santa Ana River Project. This major constuction progam protects a million Southern Californians from massive flood damage and has lifted the burden of flood insurance from most local residents. This Army Corps project has been on time and under budget. Unfortunately, the new Democrat-controlled Congress would reimpose flood insurance on us even though the Santa Ana River Project has made it unnecessary. Dana is trying his best to fight and win on this issue, and protect his constituents from wasteful and unnecessary expenditures on this insurance.

To lessen local freeway congestion, Dana insisted on changing the operating hours of trucks hauling containers from our local ports so that trucks could then travel at night. This program has been highly successful in reducing traffic from our freeways.

With extra funds needed for port security and upkeep, Dana has authored legislation permitting a container fee to be levied so the foreign companies using our ports will pay their fair share. Dana is now pushing for a container movement system to get 20,000 trucks per day off the road.

Dana's Congressional office has been the catalyst for emergency preparedness training and cooperation between federal, state and local governments. Dana has sponsored coordinating sessions which brought fire, police, hospitals, national guard, and other first-response teams together. In case of terrorist activity or natural disaster (earthquake), we are better prepared than ever before. Over 6,000 local first-responders have been trained thanks to Dana's efforts.

Similarly, Representative Rohrabacher and his office have played a significant role in overseeing security in our local ports.

Representative Rohrabacher brought Ron Nobel, head of Interpol, to meet with State, and local law enforcement to strengthen the international cooperation in capturing criminals and thwarting terrorists.

Representative Rohrabacher has seen to it that funds have been awarded to Westminster Police in order to fight foreign gangs in Little Saigon.

Representative Rohrabacher led the fight to ensure the billions of dollars in aviation assets at El Toro Marine Base would be utilized to turn the former military base into an international airport. This would have been of enormous benefit to the people of Orange County, as well as Long Beach and Palos Verdes as pressure would be taken off LAX, Long Beach and John Wayne Airports. The fight was unsuccessful, but Dana was watching out for us.

PUBLIC SAFETY - WATCHING OUT FOR US

Dana Rohrabacher and his staff have been instrumental in the training and equipping of 6,000 local police, firefighters and healthcare first-responders, the very personnel who will protect us if America's terrorist enemies hit Southern California, or if we suffer a major natural disaster.
