Eric is a lifelong activist in the pro-choice movement and an absolute supporter of a woman's reproductive rights. He has led the fight for women's rights in this state, supporting legislation requiring equality of medical coverage for contraception, health screenings, and infertility treatment to protecting a woman's right to choose under any circumstances.
Before Roe v. Wade, Eric worked at a women's health center in Washington D.C., when abortions were illegal in the rest of the southeastern U.S. As an attorney, he defended access to reproductive clinics when they were under siege by Operation Rescue and other anti-choice extremist groups. Throughout his career, Eric has been endorsed by numerous women's and pro-choice groups including NARAL, Planned Parenthood, National Organization for Women; and in 2009, Eric was the recipient of the prestigious Margaret Sanger Award from Family Planning Advocates of New York State. In July, NARAL Pro-Choice New York endorsed Eric's bid for Attorney General. As NARAL's President Kelli Conlin said, "NARAL Pro-Choice New York is proud to endorse Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General of New York State. During his decade of service as a state senator, Eric has been a vocal and absolute advocate for women's reproductive health and rights."
