Jim Huffman, Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate handily won the first of two debates with Ron Wyden. Huffman was in command of the night and took Ron Wyden to task for his record of higher taxes, reckless spending, and failed economic policies that have led to unemployment of 10.6% in Oregon.
"It was great that Ron Wyden finally decided to attend a debate with me -- it is unfortunate that he only agreed to debate almost a week after ballots went out," said Huffman. "The debate was an excellent opportunity to contrast my positions of fiscal restraint and job creating policies with the failed, big government, job-killing policies of Ron Wyden."
Huffman called out Wyden for voting against timber payments for devastated logging communities, and pushing a timber plan Wyden claims has unanimous support, but most certainly does not. Wyden was also forced to explain his ineffectiveness in his 30 years in Congress, and having an extremely thin record of legislative accomplishments. Huffman was able to point out the blatant inaccuracies in Wyden's attack ads.
Huffman will next debate Ron Wyden at Portland City Club on Friday October 22, and continue to force him to defend his 30 year record of raising taxes and growing the federal deficit.
