Abercrombie Attends First of Several Democratic Party Rallies

Press Release

Date: Oct. 16, 2010
Location: Hilo, HI
Issues: Elections

Neil Abercrombie attended a rally at the University of Hawaii-Hilo Imiloa Astronomy Center, the first event of a statewide tour by the Democratic Party of Hawaii.

"Today is the day that we kick off our final sprint to Nov. 2," Abercrombie said. "We've been in a situation of confrontation and conflict for eight years and that's about to end. A governor's job is to accept responsibility and bring people together despite our differences. There will be no more excuses from our leaders telling you why things can't be done."

Other Democratic candidates at the rally included U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye, Democratic Lieutenant Governor nominee Brian Schatz and U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono. U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka and Mayor Billy Kenoi also attended the rally.

"We don't believe in the word, "impossible,'" Inouye said. "If there is a problem, there must be a solution. And it's our job to look for that solution and find it. There is a lot of unfinished business. With Neil Abercrombie as Governor, Brian Schatz as Lieutenant Governor, Mazie Hirono on the Congressional team with Danny Akaka and me, we can't miss."

More than 500 people attended the rally, which also featured the Family Fun Day at the Imiloa Center with a robotics competition, food booths and games for children.

Earlier in the day, Abercrombie visited several small businesses in downtown Hilo and the Hilo Farmers' Market. Later today, Abercrombie is expected to attend a rally at Honokaa High School. Tomorrow, he will be in Kona for the Democratic Party's Kona rally at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Hotel.

Other rallies planned by the Democratic Party before the General Election include stops in Maui and Kauai.
