Our nation is stronger and richer because of an orderly and legal immigration policy which the United States enforced for generations. In fact each of us is directly linked to places like Ellis Island and our immigrant forebears by reason of that immigration policy. Illegal immigration however does not make us safer or more prosperous. We as citizens of this state have a right to demand our elected officials protect us from those who would penetrate our borders illegally and in violation of our laws. I fear that no nation can long survive if it cannot control its own borders and that is why I support immigration reform.
