For most students, education doesn't end with a high school diploma. Students need to continue their education in order to compete in our increasingly global knowledge-based economy. Jim helped make higher education more accessible to middle class families by voting to freeze tuition at Maryland's public colleges and universities for three years in a row. As a result, Maryland went from being one of the ten most expensive university systems in the nation to the middle of the pack.
Jim is also a strong supporter of Howard Community College. Over the past four years, he secured over $45 million in State aid to HCC. He also brought back over $20 million in State capital aide for the campus, including funds to renovate the Clark Library and to build the Allied Health Building.
