* Local Transportation Funding
I will support and vote to fully re-instate funding to local governments from the gasoline tax, registration and other fees as promised.. The State should not balance its transportation program on the backs of local government.
* State Transportation Plan
I will support the development of a comprehensive long term transportation development plan. This would include, roads, transit, airports and all other transportation related projects. The plan should be developed in partnership with all local governments. Every future State transportation dollar should be directed to support this plan. Local governments should then develop their growth plans with the State plan in mind.
F.A.C.T. has played an important role in planning, support and coordination of transportation projects in Frederick City and County. I will support the continuation of this example of citizen participation in planning our future transportation and encourage this model as an example of how we can increase involvement and support for other important issues and projects.
While an additional lane in each direction is needed and should be constructed, we need to address the issues that will more permanently alleviate the traffic problem. We should continue to protect the right-of-ways for transit that we started in the eighties and we should work to bring good paying jobs here so that our residents do not have to drive on I-270.
US 15 Monocacy Boulevard Interchange
I strongly support this interchange because it is a top priority for Frederick City, County and the region. It eliminates a very serious safety issue at US 15 and Hayward Rd. and Monocacy Blvd. It is also a BRAC related project and it is critical to economic development in the area.
* Design and Engineering
I-70 Phase 4 and I-270/US 15
The I-70 Phase 4 project, which includes several bridges and widening. is important to completing the I-70 work and to moving traffic through the city, in order to eliminate regular backups. Equally important is the widening of Route 15 from Route I-270 to Route 26. This is mostly widening and bridge replacement and can be completed in phases.
As stated we should continue to protect right-of-ways for the future extension of the Metro system. We should also work towards the increase of frequency of service on the Frederick spur and look at the possibility of weekend service.
Frederick Municipal Airport
I support funding for the construction of the air traffic control tower and perimeter road and fence. I also support the planned runway extensions. The expansion and improvements of the airport are crucial to local economic development.
