Strong Third Quarter Fundraising Numbers Show Growing Momentum for Roby Campaign

Location: Montgomery, AL

Martha Roby, Republican nominee for Alabama's Second Congressional District, raised over $363,000 during the third quarter reporting period, more than doubling her previous best and sending a strong signal of growing momentum in her campaign to unseat incumbent Democrat Bobby Bright and remove Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic majority from power.

Additionally, the campaign today reported a cash-on-hand balance of more than $300,000 as of September 30, indicating strong reserves going into the home stretch of the hotly contested congressional race in the conservative Second District. The fundraising numbers, released by the Roby campaign today, are part of required Federal Election Commission filings due later this week for the third quarter spanning July 1 through September 30.

"I am so grateful for the generous support of all those that have contributed to this campaign. In the final three weeks of this race, we will be in every county in this district, listening to voters and sharing our conservative message," Roby said. "The Democrats' economic policies of reckless spending, soaring debt, and job-killing regulation are hurting our great country, and it is time for a representative from this district to stand up and fight against their attack on our values. We need to return to the conservative principles of limited government and free enterprise that allow small business--the true engine of our economy--to invest, expand, and create jobs. That is not going to happen with Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Bobby Bright in power."

The fundraising report comes as the Roby campaign releases its second television spot, titled "He Won't." The ad, which began running yesterday in both major television markets in the district, highlights the Democrats' passage of the costly health care law that raises taxes, cuts Medicare, and imposes hundreds of burdensome regulations on small businesses in Alabama.

"Here are two things Bobby Bright won't promise you, but I will,"' Roby plainly states in the ad. "I'll vote to repeal and replace this [health care] law. And my first vote will take away the gavel from Nancy Pelosi, so she can't block us from changing it."

In other signs of growing momentum, the campaign released a Public Opinion Strategies poll last week showing Roby with a two-point lead, after trailing eight points in July. In reaction to these developments, respected political pundit Charlie Cook last week moved the Second District contest from "Leans Democrat" to "Toss-Up," and the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza moved the race up to 37 from 43 on his weekly list of the 50 House races most likely to switch parties in November.

The Roby campaign has county chairs operating in all 16 counties in the district, an active Facebook page with more than 2,800 fans, and an engaged volunteer organization that will be active throughout the district in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Roby announced in May 2009 that she would seek the 2nd Congressional District seat. She has been named a "Young Gun" candidate, the highest level in the National Republican Congressional Committee's candidate development program.
