Kagen heads home instead of stopping massive tax hikes

Candidate for Congress Reid Ribble made the following statement regarding the House adjournment:

"Congressman Kagen and Washington Democrats are putting politics before the American people by failing to allow an up or down vote to stop a massive $3.9 trillion job-killing tax increase," Ribble stated in response to the House adjournment.

Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 210-209 to adjourn early, leave work unfinished and return home to campaign. The 2001 tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year and 39 Democrats joined Republicans in voting to keep Congress in session to tackle this massive tax hike on small businesses, workers, and families. Congressman Kagen chose to adjourn without acting on the expiring tax cuts and instead chose to focus on campaigning.

Tax increases in January will affect every American taxpayer. According to the Tax Foundation, the average middle-income family that earns $63,366 will pay $1,540 more in taxes.

"Small businesses aren't hiring employees or investing because they don't know what the tax and regulatory climate for next year will be. Our government just failed the American people and Congressman Kagen went right along with it," Ribble concluded.
