Peters Reaches New Low By Claiming a Republican Wants to Raise Taxes

Press Release

Date: Oct. 6, 2010
Location: Birmingham, MI

Today, incumbent Democrat Gary Peters made it clear again that he will say and do anything to get re-elected. With another negative ad filled with distortions and lies against Republican nominee Rocky Raczkowski, Peters again tried to hide from his record of supporting Obamacare, the failed stimulus and Cap and Trade.

In a completely laughable assertion, Gary Peters falsely claims Rocky Raczkowski wants to raise taxes on Oakland County families by 23 percent. In the new ad, Peters fails to mention that the Democratic Congress adjourned early, deserting Oakland County taxpayers who face the biggest tax hike in history on January 1, 2011, when the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts expire.

"Do I support a fairer, simpler tax system with lower taxes for everyone? Absolutely," Rocky said. "Unlike my opponent, I actually have a record of cutting taxes as a state legislator, and I am committed to cutting taxes for hard-working families in Oakland County."

"By taking orders from Nancy Pelosi and failing to vote on continuing the tax cuts, Gary Peters deserted Oakland County and left taxpayers to foot the bill for trillion dollar deficits," said Rocky.

"On the one hand, Gary Peters wants to criticize me for signing a "No Tax Increase' pledge. Then, on the other, he wants voters to believe we want to increase taxes by 23 percent," said Rocky. "Up until now, I thought he was just desperate. Now, with this round of lies and distortions, I know he truly is everything that is wrong with Washington and out of touch with reality."
