Congressman John T. Salazar today renewed his call for a 1-year extension of the tax cuts before the conclusion of the 111th Congress. Two weeks ago, John was joined by over 30 of his colleagues who voiced support for a 1-year extension of the tax cuts.
Congressman Salazar offered the following comments on his support for extending the tax cuts:
"I continue to believe that our first responsibility needs to be the economy. We're showing positive signs of turning the corner and now is not the time to raise taxes, especially on farmers, ranchers, and small business owners. A one year extension will allow Coloradans the chance to get back on their feet. These tax cuts will help keep our economy moving forward and give families and small businesses the confidence and stability they need during a recovering economy.
"The President's Fiscal Commission is expected to report to Congress in the next several months on their bipartisan recommendations to reduce our country's debt. That's why I want to extend tax cuts for one year. It will allow our economy to continue to recover and give Congress a clearer picture of our fiscal situation before Congress takes any more action."
