Today, Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) urged President Obama to challenge forcefully the remarks that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to deliver to the United Nations on Thursday, September 23rd.
In a letter to President Obama, Lance and a group of lawmakers wrote:
"Mr. President, we are increasingly anxious that the world is running out of time to stop the Iranian regime -- the chief state sponsor of terrorism in the world --from achieving the ability to threaten the world with its nuclear weapons.
"Most likely, he (Ahmadinejad) will once again use the (United Nation's) platform to mock those who oppose his quest for nuclear weapons and deny the Holocaust. Please do not let his remarks go unchallenged. Please state unequivocally that the United States and our allies will prevent Iran from further threatening its neighbors by destabilizing the region and igniting a nuclear-arms race."
For his part, Lance has urged the Obama Administration to halt Iran's efforts to achieve a nuclear-weapon program by strictly enforcing existing sanctions against Iran.
