Issue Position: Putting People Before Politics

Issue Position

Called "Bipartisan" by Democratic Members of Congress

Lee Terry is respected and works with all Members regardless of political party. A survey of Members by The Hill newspaper showed Lee to be one of Congress' most bipartisan Members. That reputation has enabled him to work effectively with the majority to get things done for the people of the 2nd District. Lee Terry has a substantial record in crafting important legislation. The Hill-Terry law (authored with Democratic Congressman Baron Hill of Indiana in 2007) increases the fuel efficiency of cars and trucks -- something that can save our nation from importing hundreds of millions of barrels of foreign oil over the next decade. Other provisions authored by Lee Terry have become law to expand the use of geothermal energy around the nation, as well as mandate the use of E-85 Ethanol in the federal government's vehicle fleet.

Creating Jobs Is Priority #1

Getting our economy back on track and unemployed Nebraskans back to work is priority #1 for Lee Terry. Lee supports lower taxes for families and lower taxes and less regulation for small businesses to help spur job creation.

Lee Terry is also a strong opponent of the out-of-control government spending that is creating massive debt for our children and hurting our economy.

Lee Terry supports policies that will motivate the private sector to reinvest and create real, long-term jobs. The federal stimulus program, on the other hand, is spending another $800 billion we don't have to expand government -- the wrong strategy for long-term growth. As part of this, Lee has voted to terminate the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) and use the remaining funds to reduce the national debt.

The $2 Trillion Difference

Lee voted against the ineffective federal stimulus program as well as the federal healthcare law that costs more than $1 trillion.

Tom White supports both spending initiatives -- at a cost of two trillion dollars in new federal spending!

What is the difference between Lee Terry and Tom White?

Two trillion dollars.

Lee Terry is a strong advocate for Medicare. His opponent supports cutting Medicare by over $500 billion, a level that many experts believe will prompt physicians to leave the program.

Lee Terry is a strong proponent of reducing taxes to create jobs. His opponent supports over $500 billion in new and higher taxes on individuals, families and small businesses.

Lee Terry has sponsored a constitutional amendment to require a balanced federal budget. His opponent was one of only seven liberal legislators to vote against Governor Dave Heineman's plan to balance the state's budget last fall.
