Statement

Date: Oct. 1, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow today made the following statement regarding the information released today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency.

"Strong, national fuel-economy standards are exactly what our country needs, not a confusing patchwork of different state guidelines. I am pleased that the Obama administration is making progress in creating these new measures. By working with stakeholders on these national standards for our automakers to follow, we will move forward on the path of reducing our dependence on foreign oil while also creating clean energy jobs.

"I look forward to working with the Administration to ensure a fair and independent analysis that will consider the cost and feasibility of new technologies. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I will continue to make sure we are making the right investments in fuel efficiency technology and advancing the clean energy technologies needed to power hybrid and electric vehicles in America. By investing in advanced manufacturing technologies, we can preserve our way of life while creating good-paying jobs here in Michigan."-- U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow
