Democratic Candidate for Governor Mike Meister raises questions about Governor Heineman's actions on rural healthcare. In a statement released this weekend, Meister saidGovernor Heineman eliminated funding for Area Health Care Education Centers. These are places that recruit health care professionals to rural areas. Meister said Heineman doesn't understand the return on investment for funding such centers.

"Revenue streams are increased because you have healthcare professionals paying into the system and you serve people by providing them access to health care they might not otherwise receive," Democratic candidate Mike Meister.

Governor Heineman responded today by criticizing Meister's campaign.
He says Meister just makes negative comments that contradict the accomplishments of his administration.

"We've invested in the future of Nebraska all across the state in education in jobs. The economy that's what people want for us to invest keeping young people here in the state, expanding job opportunities for middle class families we're going to keep doing that," said Governor Heineman.

Heineman went on to say that he's concerned about healthcare. He says recent legislation passed at the federal level raises taxes, increases the cost of insurance premiums and cuts Medicare.
