Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after House Republicans presented A Pledge to America, a new governing agenda focused on addressing the American people's top priorities. The pledge is the culmination of a months-long engagement with the American people in which House Republicans sought their ideas and priorities for Congress.
"The Pledge to America is a governing document that proposes common-sense solutions to the problems facing our country," Scalise said. "American people deserve action on a governing agenda that puts their immediate priorities first, and for too long Washington politicians have ignored their demands. The liberals running Congress continue to pursue a reckless agenda that includes out-of-control spending and borrowing, as well as policies that are killing jobs and threatening to deny future generations their opportunity to enjoy the American dream.
"For months now, I've held town hall meetings and listened to the people of Southeast Louisiana. People throughout our region, and across the country have spoken out loud and clear that they want Congress to focus on issues like jobs, spending and government reform, not job-killing taxes and a government takeover of health care. This Pledge to America is an agenda that Speaker Pelosi could implement immediately but has refused to do so, and it is an agenda that I am eager to work towards and will continue fighting to pursue."
The agenda offers concrete solutions that can be implemented immediately to tackle the issues that are most important to the nation, including job creation, spending restraint, national security, health care, and reform to Congress itself.
