Issue Position: Strengthening Retirement Security

Issue Position

We must keep our commitment to America's greatest generations, and I am absolutely opposed to any privatization of social security.

The out-of-control spending in Washington is not only hurting job growth, it's also threatening Social Security and Medicare for future generations, which is why we must restore accountability and end the wasteful spending.

Below is a brief summary of the ways I've worked to keep our commitments to seniors:

* Sponsored medical malpractice reforms to keep good doctors in our communities.

* Passed legislation to protect seniors from identity theft, a fast growing crime.

* Increased funding for home delivered meals.

* Raised the senior homestead tax exemption.

* Fought to expand the Senior Assessment Freeze Program to ease property tax burdens.

* Sponsored legislation to fight elder abuse.

* Conducted hearings around the State on issues important to making Illinois a better climate for physicians, hospitals, and seniors.

Priorities for Congress:

* Seniors must receive the benefits they've paid for and earned from Social Security.

* Permanently fix the Medicare Prescription Drug Donut Hole.

* We must fix the flawed reimbursement formula for Medicare doctors to ensure seniors never lose access to their physicians.

* Remove the twin costs of widespread litigation and defensive medicine through comprehensive tort reform that ends abusive lawsuits.

* Repeal the death tax, an unfair double or even triple taxation on private assets.
