Herseth Sandlin Receives Congressional Leadership Award For Work On Behalf Of Veterans

Today, U.S. Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin received the Veterans Entrepreneurship Task Force (VET-Force) Congressional Leadership Award for her "outstanding and continued support of efforts to improve employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for veterans."

As Chairwoman of the House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, Rep. Herseth Sandlin prioritizes the employment needs and challenges faced by veterans. She has held a series of hearings on a range of veterans employment issues, including translating military skills to the civilian employment market and improving federal contractor compliance with regulations regarding veteran-owned small businesses.

In addition, Rep. Herseth Sandlin has advanced several important legislative initiatives through the House of Representatives, including legislation to improve the Department of Veterans' Affairs monitoring of veteran-owned businesses and a bill to improve the employment services available for veterans through the Department of Labor

"I am honored to work on behalf of the men and women who have served our country bravely and make sure they are protected as best as we know how -- not just with equipment and training while they serve -- but also with access to the benefits and assistance they have earned once they finish their service," said Rep. Herseth Sandlin. "I am honored to receive this award and look forward to continuing to honor our nation's sacred promise to our veterans."

The VET-Force is composed of over 200 organizations and affiliates representing thousands of veteran business owners throughout the United States. The VET-Force presents a strong unified veterans' voice for virtually all of the major veterans groups as well as veteran entrepreneurs. VET-Force advocates for veterans who are seeking assistance with small business and employment issues. To learn more about VET-Force visit www.vet-force.org.
