Today we celebrate Constitution Day, marking 223 years since the signing of the greatest secular document ever conceived by man. Our Constitution, together with the Bill of Rights, is the master blueprint which makes our democracy possible.
In their timeless wisdom, our Founding Fathers recognized the importance of personal liberty, economic opportunity, and natural rights which come not from government, but from our Creator. Yet in our times, as throughout our history, there are voices within our country who wish to drastically expand the scope of the federal government, and do not respect the core principles of the Constitution -- separation of powers, checks and balances, and limited government that draws its legitimacy from the consent of the people.
Let us use this day to educate ourselves about our sacred Constitution and re-dedicate ourselves to the principles that have made our country what it is.
