The government made a promise to its people that when they retired, Social Security would be there for them. In Congress, I intend to ensure Social Security is funded so that we can keep that promise. I have never supported privatizing Social Security. I strongly favor tax incentives to encourage and make it easier for families to save for retirement through their own investments in addition to and not in place of Social Security.
The real threat to Social Security is Washington, D.C.'s out-of-control spending. For too long, politicians have taken money from the Social Security trust fund and left nothing but I.O.U.'s I will work to stop overspending and put Social Security back on steady financial ground.
