Diane Denish and Brian Colón Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month

Today marked the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month which will run from today through October 15.

New Mexico, with its rich Hispanic heritage celebrates the month with special events, museum and cultural exhibits and most important: encouraging New Mexicans and tourists alike to explore our state's deep Hispanic roots.

"New Mexico is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse states in the nation and our rich cultural fabric serves as an example to all that diversity can be a source of great strength. As a native New Mexican, I am proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with all New Mexico families and encourage them to experience and learn about New Mexico's history and culture," Denish said.

Lt. Governor candidate Brian Colón said: "Growing up in Valencia County I was surrounded by Hispanic influence and my family was always proud of our rich Hispanic heritage and culture. From the Spaniards who settled in northern New Mexico 400 years ago to today, New Mexico has a unique history of Hispanic influence that people travel from all over the globe to experience. I take pride in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with my family and I encourage New Mexicans to visit places such as the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the Camino Rael Visitors Center."
